Clinic efficacy and safety of “fuyun” composition in patients with functional premature ventricular contractions

    • AIM To examine the clinical efficacy and safety of the traditional Chinese medicinal composition “fuyun” in treatment of patients with functional premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). METHODSWe recruited 68 patients with functional PVCs, 49 of whom were assigned to “fuyun” group and 19 to propafenone group. “Fuyun” group received “fuyun” composition therapy and propafenone group was given propafenone. Both therapies lasted for 1 week. The number of PVCs of each patient before and after treatment was recorded using 24-h Holter and the symptoms were evaluated. RESULTSThe efficacy of “fuyun” was better than that of propafenone in both the inhibition of PVCs (59% vs. 32%, P<0.05) and the alleviation of PVC-related symptoms [(3.3±2.4) vs.(8.9±4.5), P<0.01]. No severe adverse effects attributable to “fuyun” were found. CONCLUSION“Fuyun” composition achieves better efficacy than propafenone in treatment for functional PVCs.
