Pluripotent stem cells and transdifferentiation in myocardial regeneration: an overview

    • Myocardium is usually repaired by scar tissue after myocardial ischemia. Because myocardium was thought incapable of regenerating cardiomyocytes, it is thus deprived of structural and functional integrity. With the advancement of research on myocardial regeneration and translational medicine, it has been confirmed that myocardium, a new popular research topic for the treatment of myocardial ischemia, can continually generate normal cardiomyocytes. This article provides an overview of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and transdifferentiation in myocardial regeneration and introduces some new ideas for the clinical treatment of myocardial regeneration.
