Application of microlecture-based flipped instruction in online course of high-altitude heart disease

    •   AIM  To explore the application of the novel microlecture-based flipped instruction in the online course of high-altitude heart disease.
METHODS  Forty medical students were randomly divided into experimental group (n=20) and control group (n=20). The microlecture-based flipped instruction on the Internet platform was used for experimental group, while traditional classroom online teaching was used for control group. A new examination system combining in-class test, homework and final exam was utilized to evaluate the learning outcome of the students in both groups and an online satisfaction survey was conducted to collect the feedback of students.
RESULTS  The homework and final exam performance as well as the overall examination evaluation of the students in the experimental group students were significantly higher than those in the control group. Besides, the students in experimental group were more satisfied in the aspects of learning interest cultivation, self-study ability and practical skill improvement as well as mastery of knowledge compared with the students in the control group.
CONCLUSION  The novel microlecture-based flipped instruction helps the students better master the key and difficult points in high-altitude heart disease course and improve the students′ interest and learning ability in medical curriculum.
