Research progress in relationship between glucose transporters and cardiovascular diseases

Glucose transporters (GLUT) undertake the facilitated diffusion of glucose. They are involved in the regulation of energy metabolism of heart and vascellum and are closely related to the development of many kinds of cardiovascular diseases. There are multiple subtypes of GLUT and different subtypes of GLUT play different roles in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, different cardiovascular diseases exhibit different changes in GLUT subtypes. This review highlights the expressions and changes in GLUT in cardiovascular system and discusses the functions of GLUT in the development of cardiovascular diseases.
