Research progress of CTRP9 in cardiovascular disease

    • C1q tumor necrosis factor-related protein 9 (CTRP9), one of the members of CTRP9 family showing high homology to adiponectin, has a significant effect on cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease, according to recent published reports. In addition to regulating the metabolism of glucose and lipid and endothelial functions, exogenous CTRP9 can protect ischemic myocardium. Moreover, specific and high expressions in the heart suggest that CTRP9 may function as a potent cardioprotective cardiokine. The present review focuses on the protective role of CTRP9 in the development of cardiovascular disease and the mechanisms involved.
